Zealous Youths Storm Kidnappers Hideout in Kwara, Apprehend Six Suspects

Six suspected kidnappers who have been terrorizing residents of Odo-Owa, a town in Oke-Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State met their waterloo on Friday, April 30, 2021, as zealous youths swung into action, stormed their hideout, and arrested them.

This development comes as several reports have shown that victims kidnapped in Southwestern states of the country are often released in forests in Kwara, a state in the Northcentral part of Nigeria.

Nigerian News learned that the kidnap syndicate, led by one Ramoni, had abducted four persons on Wednesday in Odo-Owa community, including an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Ramoni and his gang had reached out to families of the victims, demanding a ransom of eight million before the captives will be freed.

Negotiations gathered momentum and the families of the victims rallied around and paid a ransom of two million naira to the suspected kidnappers as the first tranche of the N8m.

As the kidnappers were set to receive the second tranche of the ransom, worth N6m, the zealous youth stormed their den, apprehended the suspects, and detained them. The kidnap suspects were later handed over to relevant authorities in the area.

Speaking with Channels Television, the FRSC Sector Commander in Kwara State, Jonathan Owoade, said that the abducted road safety officer was not from the state but Ekiti State.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kwara, Ajayi Okasanmi, has said the command is yet to be briefed by officers from the Odo-Owa police division, therefore, a statement will be issued to that effect soon.
