More Deaths Recorded as Israel-Palestinian War Intensifies

Israel and Gaze have renewed their longstanding unrest since Tuesday night, a development the United Nations has said may escalate into a full-scale war.

The renewed clash saw Israeli airstrikes targeting Hamas offices in Gaza city while militants in Gaza fired rockets at the metropolis of Tel Aviv, the southern city of Ashkelon, and Israel’s main airport.

New York Times reports that at least 35 Palestinians, including 10 children, had been killed in Gaza, with 203 others wounded. Israeli medical officials said five people were killed in strikes on Tel Aviv, Ashkelon, and Lod, and at least 100 were wounded.

In this light, Israel has declared a state of emergency with AFP reporting that the middle east country has deployed 80 fighter jets, tankers, and foot soldiers to its Gaza border after Hamas fired around 130 rockets at targets in Israel on Tuesday, May 11, following the destruction of a tower block in Gaza by an Israeli airstrike.

According to reports and images obtained from the scenes of the airstrikes, this seems to be the worst clash between both countries since the 2014 war.

Continuous bombing by Israeli jets has continued in different parts of Gaza, with Gaza’s police headquarters also destroyed.

The Jews and Arabs, for over 100 years, have continued to fight to lead the land between River Jordan and the Mediterranean Sea.

With this renewed war, Palestinian citizens of Israel have expressed displeasure at the killings in Gaza, also registering complaints of persistent discrimination.

Despite gaining independence in 1948, Israel has continued to defeat the Palestinians in all its wars but still can’t take control of the land.

When peace will return to both nations still remains a big question. Meanwhile, an international spokesperson for the Israeli Defense Forces, Colonel Conricus, has told the New York Times that the military’s air campaign was still in its “early stages.”
